Hostage Rescue missions can be found at several garrisons once they've been liberated. Completing these side quests will earn you Combat Points (XP), cash and weapon upgrades as a reward for The game will tell you it's saving a checkpoint, but it really isn't. I find it amazing that there's no official fix for this issue, or that no one has hacked together a solution.
